I pledge to satisfy my coaching responsibilities to the best of my ability following the guidelines and policies set forth by the Edina Basketball Association and further agree to abide by the Code of Conduct expectations described below:
I am aware that I must pass a background check to be eligible to coach for the EBA. Furthermore, if my conduct during the season ever becomes detrimental to the association or any of its participants, is deemed inappropriate for any reason, or is illegal, I will be immediately relieved of my coaching duties.
I have read and agree to follow the requirements outlined in the EBA's COVID-19 Preparedness Plan located on the EBA website.
I will set clear expectations with my players and parents at the beginning of the season, so everyone understands my coaching philosophy and how I intend manage the team.
I will treat each player as a unique individual keeping in mind, the wide range of emotional and physical development that occurs within the age group I am coaching.
I will use positive and respectful communication when coaching my team and will hold each player to the same standard when interacting with me and their fellow teammates.
I will do my best to provide for the safety and well-being of my players by closely monitoring all activities (drills, competitions, scrimmages, etc.) and removing anyone who appears to be suffering from illness or injury.
I will review the contents of the first aid kit I am issued will familiarize myself with basic first aid procedures required to treat minor injuries my players may suffer.
I will maintain a substance free environment for my team and will refrain from using anything that impairs my judgement when I am responsible for my players.
I will take advantage of EBA resources that serve to develop or enhance my coaching ability and/or basketball knowledge.
I will arrive for practice 10 minutes before our scheduled start time and will not leave until all players have left the gym.
I will always be prepared for practice and will dedicate at least 20 minutes to skill development each session.
I will know the rules of basketball and I will teach these rules to my players.
If I am going to be late or miss a practice or game, I will notify my assistant coach or team manager in a timely manner, so arrangements can be made to cover for my absence.
I will lead by example by demonstrating good sportsmanship and fair play during games. This includes, but is not limited to my interactions with officials, the opposing team, and the opposing team’s parents. I will expect my players and their parents to do the same.
I will not swear at, trash-talk or berate officials, the opposing team, or the opposing team’s parents. I understand that unsportsmanlike conduct may result in my removal from games, tournaments or being relieved of my coaching duties.
Please note. If a coach is not meeting expectations or following the Coach Code of Conduct, he or she may be subject to disciplinary action including suspension or in severe cases removal from all coaching duties.
