The season will
have a combination of clinics, practices, and games resulting in
approximately 20 events this year. There will also be optional
open gyms on Saturday and Sunday beginning November 14th
throughout the season, along with fun events like EBA nights at EHS varsity games.
A few highlights for the 2009-2010 season:
The season runs
from the week of Nov. 23 through the beginning of March. The
season starts with a series of preseason clinics specifically
developed for the 3rd & 4th grade age
group.
For 3rd
& 4th grade girls, the season kicks off with the "Hot
Shots" skills camps conducted by Coach Jonathan Buckley and his
EHS 9th grade players. 1st-4th grade girls
will participate in these fun and high energy clinics on Nov.
21, Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Jan. 9. All participants will receive a
t-shirt and Hot Shots basketball. This camp is part of the
registration fee.
For 3rd
& 4th grade boys, John Tauer, University of St.
Thomas Assistant Men’s basketball coach and the director of John
Tauer’s Championship Basketball Camp, will conduct 3 skill camps
throughout the season. Mr. Tauer ran these clinics for our
players last year and was very enthusiastically asked to do the
same for the EBA this year. Again, these clinics are part of the
registration fee.
Team pictures
will be taken on January 9th in the Concord
Elementary school cafeteria. Order packets and picture times
will be handed out to each team prior to the photo session.
The 3rd & 4th grade teams will use 9 foot
baskets, and the 28.5” basketball.
Development League (Grades 3 and 4, Boys and Girls)
The
Developmental League is focused on providing a fun sports
experience for boys and girls in grades 3 and 4. From the
foundation and exposure to the sport that was created in Pee
Wee, the EBA Developmental League will further their experience
and knowledge of basketball. Do not worry if your child has
never played before, we will be focusing on the fundamentals and
basics of the game at this age level. The objectives of the
program are to ensure that the participants:
-have fun,
-learn the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork,
-develop their individual skills
-progress a player's interest and skill level in the game of
basketball
-equal playing and practice time.
We expect children to try and make it to
all practices and games. There are typically about 8 players on
a team. This ensures children get plenty of individual
instruction and playing time. The program is intended for
children that live in or attend school in Edina. Please contact
the EBA via the website if you have questions about whether your
child is eligible to play.
The coaches are parent volunteers, so
please consider volunteering your talents and time. Training
for coaches is provided, along with professionally prepared
practice plans that will focus on teaching basketball skills to
all players of all skill levels.
The developmental programs will focus on fundamental
basketball skills:
Dribbling, Passing, Rebounding, and Shooting Skills
Player movement- with and without the basketball
(screens, cutting)
Team Offenses
Player-to-Player Defenses
Introducing team play and team concepts
