Welcome to the home of the
EBA!
While basketball season may still
be a few months away, we have been busy this off-season.
The big news is that the Edina Basketball Association is
now the single source for winter basketball in Edina for
all boys and girls. On June 30, 2007, the Edina Girls
Basketball Association and the Edina Basketball
Association officially merged together.

The merger was
the culmination of months of work on both sides to
provide the best of all our collective programs to all
the boys and girls in Edina. In addition to
streamlining information-sharing, scheduling, and
registration for parents, the combination of the EGBA
and the EBA will formally consolidate and coordinate the
best practices, policies and talents of both
associations. This will provide improved access to
programs, coaching, and facilities for boys and girls in
the Pee Wee, Development League, House League and
Traveling programs you have come to know over the
years.
As part of the new EBA, we will be
blending the content of several of the existing
non-travel boys and girls programs in 2007/2008.
This season, first and second graders will
participate in the Pee Wee program. The Pee Wee program
will include over 25 hours of activities from November
through February. The Pee Wee program is focused on fun
and learning basketball basics through weekend programs,
weekday practices and scheduled games after the holiday
break.
Similarly, the Development League program will
run from November through February and provide third
and fourth grade participants the opportunity to
enhance their basketball skills with more advanced
coaching and additional game playing opportunities after
the holidays. Although very similar in structure and
content, the Pee Wee and Developmental League programs
will still maintain separate gender-specific events for
the boys and girls who participate.
At 5th grade, both the
boys and girls will have the option of competing for a
position on one of Edina’s Travel program teams or
participating in the EBA House League program. As in
past years, the boys House League will include weekly
practices and intra-league play in Edina, with teams
made up of boys from Edina in 5th through 12th
grades. New this year, the EBA House League for girls
grades 5-8
will include weekly practices and participate in an
inter-community league program with teams from
Minnetonka, Wayzata and potentially other communities in
the west metro area. All Pee Wee, Development League
and House League programs are described in detail
elsewhere on this website, and while similar, will be
designed separately for each age group of girls and
boys, respectively, based upon participation levels.
The Travel programs, already very similar for boys and
girls, will, in all material aspects, remain unchanged
for 2007/2008. We encourage each and every one of you
to go to the appropriate section of this website if you
have specific questions regarding your child’s
particular program.
Those of us on the EBA board are
excited about the changes resulting from the creation of
the new EBA and sincerely believe it will provide the
best of all possible opportunities to serve each and
every basketball player in Edina. Being realists,
we also recognize that with any transition like this
there are bound to be minor bumps. We ask you
patience and support as we work through all the details. We look forward to a
great future together and great Edina basketball in the
years ahead.
Go Hornets!
