The Edina Peewee Basketball League is a parent coached, non-competitive basketball program designed to develop fundamental skills and to promote fun while participating in organized practice and games. The program is offered to all first and second grade boys and girls who live in, or attend school in Edina.

The focus of the Edina Peewee Basketball League is to teach basketball skills including: passing, defense, dribbling, shooting, basic techniques, and coordination. The Edina Peewee Basketball League encourages a positive learning environment, builds confidence and self-esteem, and provides positive feedback while striving for success.

Whenever possible, teams will be selected from the same general neighborhood area and/or schools.  All teams will be gender specific will be made up of 1/2 first graders and 1/2 second graders. Peewees use a size 27.5 junior ball and an 8-foot hoop.  Countryside, Creek Valley, Cornelia, and Concord Elementary schools will be primary hosts for the program.

Saturday games are scheduled on a rotating basis at 8, 9, 10, 11 am, 12 pm or 1 pm. This means your son or daughter will play at different times each week, at one of four elementary school gyms in Edina.

Boys Detail

The boys Pee Wee Basketball League will begin in November 21 and conclude in early March.  The first four Saturdays of the season (Nov. 21, Dec. 5, Dec. 12 & Jan 9) will be dedicated to one-hour practice sessions working with the EHS Boys JV coach (Eric Lowe) and players. This is called "Future Hornets". These sessions will work on basic drills that can be replicated throughout the season by the parent/coach and player. The emphasis will be on developing ball-handling skills and an understanding of the game.

For the remainder of the season, each team will have one practice/game on Saturday (Dec. 19, Jan. 16, Jan. 23, Jan. 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 20, Feb. 27 & March 6). All coaches will be provided a practice guide and playbook to help script productive practices that helps improve player skills.

Pictures will be taken on January 9th, 2010 in the Concord Elementary school cafeteria. The coaches will hand out photo order forms at the Dec. 19 games.

 

Girls Detail

The season runs from November21 through March 6.  The season kicks off with the "Hot Shots" skills camps conducted by Coach Jonathan Buckley and his EHS 9th grade players. 1st-4th grade girls will participate in these fun and high energy clinics on Nov. 21, Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Jan. 9. All players will receive a t-shirt and Hot Shots basketball.

For the remainder of the season, 1st & 2nd grade girls will have 8 games on the following Saturdays (Dec. 19, Jan. 16, Jan. 23, Jan. 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 20, Feb. 27 & March 6).
