The Traveling Program is focused on the more
competitive student athletes, who make a larger
commitment of time and effort. Traveling teams are
formed through a tryout process that creates teams at
the A, B and C level. Traveling teams typically practice
2 times per week and will play in approximately 10
tournaments over the course of the season. Any player who
tries out for a traveling team and is not selected is
automatically enrolled in the EBA House League.
Time Commitment
As with any team or activity, the
success depends largely on the level of dedication and
commitment of the participants. We strongly urge both
parents and potential players alike to consider their
schedules and conflicts before trying out for traveling
basketball. To lose players into the season due to too
many conflicts has historically created problems for a
team. Please keep in mind that attendance at practice is
as important as tournament games. Participation in
traveling basketball DOES REQUIRE A GREATER LEVEL OF
COMMITMENT than house league basketball. Participation
in another non-school traveling program during the
season is not allowed.
We will schedule two community
based week-end tournaments (Saturday and Sunday) in
November and December, three in January and February,
and 1 or 2 in March. We will allow for coaches
discretion to sign up for additional tournaments that
would be funded by the teams participating. These teams
practice twice per week and each practice is 90 minutes
in length. Players are expected to be in attendance at
all practices and games. For this reason, it is not
practical to participate in this program as well as
other heavy-obligation activities or athletic teams.
For the 2007/2008 season, there
will be 3 teams of ten (10) players in 5th grade through
8th grade. Traveling for 5th grade will be expanded to
accommodate all players that tryout -more information on
this program will follow. Teams for 6th-8th grade will
be lead by hired coaches approved by the EBA board of
directors. Each team needs a parent volunteer to act as
team manager to facilitate communication and other
administrative duties.
The EBA will sponsor 1-hour
pre-tryout clinics in September prior to the tryouts for
all grades.
