Below is a list of several important topics related to our Boys and Girls Travel Program. This information can also be found on the EBA website under Programs > Travel > Boys 4th-8th Grade or Girls 4th-8th Grade at the top of the homepage.
- Registration
Registration for our 4th-8th Grade Boys and Girls Travel Programs closes next Thursday, September 14 at midnight. Late registrations will not be accepted, so don’t delay! The Travel Program is for players with more advanced basketball skills wanting to play against other communities at the highest level. Participating in this program requires a significant time commitment and should be the player’s primary athletic activity during the season. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.
- Eligibility Guidelines
The MYBA enacted eligibility guidelines last year that use school attendance (not residency) as the primary factor for determining where a player can play. For example, if your player goes to school in Edina (EPS, OLG or ISLA), they are eligible to play for the EBA regardless of where you live. However, if your player lives in the Edina Public School attendance area, but goes to school elsewhere, you may have to apply for an exception to play for the EBA. CLICK HERE to review the MYBA's Player Eligibility Guidelines. If you believe your player may be impacted by this change, please contact us at questions@edinabasketball.com. Your player’s application must be approved before Tryouts on Saturday, September 23 to participate.
- Pre-Tryout Clinics
The EBA is partnering with EHS Varsity Head Coaches Jon Bryant and Dre Jefferson to offer Pre-Tryout Clinics on Monday, September 18 and Thursday, September 21 at the Edina Community Center (boys) and South View Middle School (girls). These clinics are OPTIONAL but strongly encouraged as they give players the opportunity to experience the drills that will be used during the tryout process. The cost is $30 for both sessions or $15 for one session. Registration closes at midnight on September 14. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.
- Parent Information Meeting – DATE CHANGE
The Travel Parent Meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 19 from 6:30 to 8:00pm at the Valley View Middle School auditorium. Please enter using Door 1 on the southwest corner of the building. There will be a presentation detailing the key aspects of the Travel Program with time afterwards for Q and A. This meeting was originally scheduled for Tuesday, September 12.
- Tryouts
Travel Tryouts will take place on Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24. There will be an additional evaluation for Boys 5th-8th Grade to determine team placement on Sunday, October 1. CLICK HERE for the Tryout Schedule. Teams for 4th grade boys and 4th-8th grade girls will be announced on Monday, September 25. Teams for 5th-8th grade boys will be announced on Monday, October 2. Players who are not selected for the Travel Program will receive a full refund minus the $40 Tryout Fee.
- Parent Coaches
As in prior years, there’s a possibility that your player’s team will require a parent coach. If you would be interested in coaching this season, please contact us at admin@edinabasketball.com and provide your contact information and the name and grade of your player. Your willingness to coach will have no bearing on the level of team your player will make.
- Travel Kick-Off and Coaches Clinic
We are excited to announce that University of St. Thomas Head Coach Johnny Tauer will be joining us for our Travel Kick-Off and Coaches Clinic on Saturday, October 7. This event will take place at the EHS Activity Center starting at 9am. Light refreshments will be provided. Please save the date and plan on attending! Following Coach Tauer’s message, EHS Varsity Coaches Jon Bryant and Dre Jefferson facilitate on-court breakout sessions specifically for Travel Coaches in attendance. Parents will be dismissed before the breakout sessions at approximately 10am.
- Sponsors Needed
The EBA is once again providing local businesses with the opportunity to sponsor one or more of our Travel Teams this season. Being a sponsor not only shows your support for Edina Basketball but helps make it possible for the EBA to provide financial aid for deserving families, college scholarships for high school seniors and funding for high school programs. Please email LeeAnna Kalscheur at lkalscheur@me.com if you have questions or want to sign up. We look forward to hearing from you!
