On March 25, the EBA Board unanimously approved a plan to add 3rd grade teams to our Travel Program starting with the 2024-25 season. With the growth of 3rd grade travel across the state and the realization that most winter tournaments offer 3rd grade brackets – the EBA board felt that the time was right to introduce this as an option for Edina families.

3rd graders who are interested in playing Travel will be invited to participate in pre-tryout clinics and our formal tryout process later this fall. There will be A and B teams for both boys and girls. Details are still being finalized but you can expect our 3rd grade teams to have two practices a week and participate in 5 or 6 weekend tournaments throughout the season. Travel will be a serious commitment for families, so please keep this in mind when considering whether to participate.

Please note: There will be no changes to our House and Rec programs due to 3rd grade Travel. This will still be an option for all kids who are not interested in Travel and or don’t make the roster of the 2 teams per gender.

On April 22, 2024, the EBA Board unanimously approved a motion to limit the number of teams in its Travel Program per gender/grade as follows:

Grade Level

* 7th Grade will be reduced to 3 teams per gender starting with the 2025-26 season

This action was thoughtfully considered by the Board and deemed necessary to ensure the quality and competitiveness of the Travel Program as well as to accommodate 3rd grade teams considering our existing gym space constraints. If the number of registrants in a gender/grade is insufficient to form the prescribed number of teams, the EBA will not form an additional team for a gender/grade with more registrants. For example, if there are only 3 girls teams formed in 5th grade and there are 50 boys registered for 7th grade, a 5th boys team will not be created.

Additional information regarding these changes will be communicated as details are finalized this summer. Until then, please contact admin@edinabasketball.com with any questions or comments.
